When I think of beef and broccoli, I always think of traditional Chinese stir fry. But this tasty dish is made in a slow cooker or crock pot, and offers a whole new way to enjoy it!

I really just adore crock pot recipes because they are so incredibly easy and so tasty, and this beef and broccoli recipe is no exception.

The slow cooker really makes your meat so tender and juicy. It’s definitely a dish worth trying out. This is one dish that is a staple on my list of Crock Pot Recipes.

  1. I just pinned this recipe & can’t wait to try it !! I just do not see why people are so rude with their comments !!!!! If you make a recipe that YOU chose to try, and are not happy with the taste, you can say that, but there really no need for the dramatics.! Everyone’s tastes are different, and some people may absolutely love it.

I am going to try this recipe tomorrow. After reading the comments, I plan to add celery and cabbage to bulk up the veggies a little since it sounds like there is extra sauce. Two questions – I have sirloin steak, is that ok rather than round steak or will it be too tough? Also, do you know the points without the rice?

  2. I don’t know what people are complaining about. It is fantastic. The meat was very flavorful and had a nice little kick. I didn’t use chillie paste, but used a chillie sauce and we all loved it. Nice job.

  3. It looked good. But when I put all the ingredients in it smelled so bad I just dumped it out and rinsed off the meat and made it my own way. SOrry I so wanted to like it but just couldn’t

  4. I thought it was great. I did mine on the stove top so the meat was not over cook and the veggies were tender. I added celery and cabbage to give it the extra crunch. No where near the salt content that you would find in bought chinese food.

  5. I want to make this for dinner tonight, but am only unclear about one thing. I put the meat in frozen, right? I usually do with crockpot recipes, but it doesn’t specify. Thanks :)

I made this tonight.  Due to many of the comments I only slow cooked it for 4 hours, and after 2 hrs I dumped some the broth out.  When I added the brocolli and cornstarch I dumped a little more broth out.  I also added more pepper.  To me this was delish and when I put it into my spark people I only ate about 385 calories so I was completely happy.  Thanks I will definitely make this again next time I am going to try with chicken or shrimp!

  7. I just made it too and I thought it was really good!! We ate it all up!

Just made this, and it was delish..not sure what everyone is fussing about!!

  9. I have this in the crockpot and it smells fantastic, I didn’t even think it through and put the broccoli in with everything else. Now that I reread the broccoli goes in later, I’m hoping it’s still ok.

  10. Disappointing if you’re looking for Chinese beef and broccoli. Turns out fine if you’re looking for stew served over rice, but it’s a waste of a lot of good ingredients that get overwhelmed to get there. Good meat and Chinese dishes like this need high heat and short cooking times. It’s just not a crockpot meal.

  11. I also really enjoyed it. I added saraha sauce to mine and it added a great flare to it!

  12. For future reference you need to list ingredients in order they are used.

  13. I’m cooking it right now,and the taste is awsome! I look so much forward to eat dinner, and the kids can’t leave the pot alone, they keep stealing the meat out of it :D
Thanks alot for this recipie, and I will for sure make it again….and again!

  14. Man, the reviews for this recipe were HARSH! I cooked it and we loved it. I’m not quite sure where the others went wrong….I used onion powder instead of real onions….and I didn’t use mushrooms. Served it over white rice and added a little more soy sauce on top since I’m addicted to salt. I had never thought of cooking beef and broccoli, especially in the crockpot. Thanks!

THIS IS DISGUSTING. I wish I had read the reviews first. Shame on me. I agree with the person below. What a huge waste of decent ingredients. It sounded good and I love all the ingrediants but when mixed and cooked together in the crockpot…YUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  16. Huge disappointment. This was bland and had no Asian flavor at all. What a waste of decent ingredients.

Add hoisin sauce and mushroom oyster sauce and it will taste much better! :-)

  17. I tried this recipe and was completely disappointed :(  None of us liked it :(  No Asian flavors noted…not recommended.

  18. I’m going to try this recipe this next week. I posted about it on my blog. http://interlacingloops.blogspot.com/2012/01/menu-monday_21.html

I thought this was awesome!  My kids devoured it and I was quite pleased with the low caloric value.

  20. I added celery and replaced the white rice with brown to increase veggie and grain value. I agree with Chelsea, it has more of an American stew flavor than Asian.

  21. Agree with Rebecca, totally disappointed in this meal and I even cut down on the cook time… definitely missing the asian flavor.

Yeah, this is an old recipe…I’m gonna re-work it soon. Thanks for the input!

  22. I made this recipe today (followed the directions perfectly) and was completely disapointed!  It looks amazing in the picture, but I’m pretty sure the directions are off in some way… 8-10 hours???  Mine was way over-cooked and practically burnt in 5 hours – even cooked it on low!   The meat turned out dry & completely unflavorful.

My brother and fiance’ were here for dinner tonight, we all took one bite, threw out our plates of food and ordered a pizza instead!  Yuck.

If you want to try to attempt this recipe, I’d suggest cutting down the cook time to maybe 3 hours on low.

you all need to realize that crockpots (and don’t even think about arguing with this statement, I have two of them and have to cook my beans in one as they do not turn out right in the other) same as stoves cook differently, shame on the cook that doesn’t pay a little attention to her cooking even in a crockpot first time using a recipe. also you who are bashing the flavor need to realize their is a point system on this recipe….umh lowfat, if you don’t like the flavor or lack their of add all the fat content to it for your taste buds but don’t gripe because some of us want to eat a lower calorie meal. I am going to try this recipe tonight and hopefully with a little watchfulness this first time out it will turn out to be a really nice meal. And I am going to have a side of cabbage with mine. sounds delish. and don’t get me wrong people saying they didn’t like it or that it was overcooked is constructive but you don’t have to be rude if you didn’t like the recipe post your findings politely and move on. Rebecca, sorry it’s not all in your post that set me off, yours just happened to be the one I finally landed on and had to voice myself.

  23. I have never used crock pot, but I have one and wanting to give it a try. Searched for recipes (under pictures) and found this one. I love chinese beef broccoli, so this definately caught my eye. I am going to try this tomorrow.

I do not do weightwatchers but I use fooddiary and I was wondering if you have additional nutrition info (transfat-if any, vitamins, caltcium?)

    Thanks

  24. I've made this 3 times so far. It is one of my favorites. I take it for lunch and it smells so good warming up. Folks at work are drooling over my great dishes.

    Thank You

  25. Is the rice included in the point total? If so how much of one serving size is rice?

    • Yes, rice is included in the point count. The total serving size is 1 1/4 cup, and about half of that would be the rice.

  26. I made this one last week and it just didn't work out. I thought it would have an asian flavor and it didn't at all. I followed the recipe to a T, but the beef fell apart like it was tender, but it was dry inside. Definitely not my fave.

  27. Hi Lily, when I made this dish, I used a bottled teriyaki glaze by Kikkoman. It was delish and surprisingly low calorie. You should be able to find that at any grocery store.

  28. I tryed this recipe last night and it turned out o.k. I was not able to find the Teriyaki baste and glaze. Can someone tell me where I can find this?

    Thanks,

    • You can find it at most Wal-Marts in the Oriental Food Section about 3 rows up from chow mein noodles

Wendy – YOU ROCK!! These are such awesome recipes!! I'm trying this one tonight – I hope it'll be ok (I'm cooking it on High for 5 hours – since you know, I'm a procrastinating Israeli and I forgot to do it earlier). :-p

    • Yes, beef tips and broccoli can be an Asian dish, BUT this is not that. It is a true comfort food that many people grew up eating long before Asian take out was even around. Thanks for posting the recipe!
