Sex and the City Movie Finally Makes it to the Big Screen!
I’m taking a break from my usual recipe chat to share the second most fabulous weekend ever (which happens the follow the first most fabulous weekend ever – my wedding, which was last weekend, on Sunday May 25th). Let’s start with Friday…at 11:30 pm on Friday night, I along with 2 of my best girlfriends, went to see the highly anticipated, long awaited Sex and the City feature film starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis. And, I must say, it did not disappoint!
CAUTION: Sex and the City spoilers ahead! If you have not seen the film and do not want to hear about what happens, STOP READING NOW! There, don’t say I didn’t warn you :).
Ok, so as much as I’d like to give my unbiased review of this film, I can’t. I loved the TV show, so of course I loved the movie. I laughed, I cried, I might have even peed a little. As I sat there watching the drama unfold, I felt like was reuniting with old friends. I love those women, and I was thrilled to see them all again! Overall, I thought that they stayed true to their characters that we all know and love – Carrie Bradshaw, Samantha Jones, Charlotte York and Miranda Hobbs.
The only thing that I was slightly disappointed about, was Carrie’s decision to take Mr. Big back after he ditched her on their wedding. Yeah, I get why and all, but still. I think it sadly reinforces a bad message to young, American women — chase after the man, and even if he treats you like crap, keep chasing, and eventually he will marry you. Not good. Though, I’ve always been a big Aidan fan and was appalled when Carrie broke up with him. And I secretly hoped he would appear in the movie and she would realize what a fool she had been and take him back. Sadly though, as the hardcore SATC viewers know, this wouldn’t be possible because Aidan is married to another woman and has a baby with her. Dammit! I even looked in her apartment to see if the Aidan chair was still there and it was nowhere to be found!
Oh, and only one thing that I did NOT LIKE AT ALL – Jennifer Hudson. Absolutely not. Her acting was horrendous – fake and insincere. Bad casting choice. And personally, I don’t think she should’ve won the Oscar for Dreamgirls, but alas, I have no say.
I heart this movie, but seeing it only made me so, so sad that the TV show is over. I miss it terribly and keep praying that the producers could convince the cast to get the show running again. Stupid HBO! Damn you! But at least I still have my DVD’s to watch over and over again — sad, but true.
