If you are like me and believe that the mere “2 tbsp” suggested serving size of ranch dressing is typically what to use on two baby carrots, then today’s Healthy Ranch Dressing Recipe is for you.

With just a few ingredients, you can make your own ranch dressing for a TON fewer calories and fat than the pre-made kind you buy. I simply used Greek yogurt instead of sour cream. The uses for Greek yogurt, are really endless. I seriously need to buy that stuff in bulk! By doing that, I cut out a ton of fat while still keeping great flavor and texture, and added a LOT of protein.

I also used an organic ranch dressing mix to keep this recipe a lot healthier and eliminate preservatives. For just 1 Point, you get a 1/3 cup serving of ranch dressing…now that’s what I’m talking about! Pour it over a salad, use it as a dip for veggies or pretzels, and slather it over a baked potato…I’m getting really hungry now just thinking about all the ways to use it!

Ranch lovers – you now have a go-to healthy dressing recipe that can let you indulge while still keeping you on track to reach your diet goals. Enjoy!

  1. Apparently some of you cannot read worth a lick! She said that she used a organic packet ranch dressing mix to eliminate preservatives…

  2. You call this “healthy?” The sodium content is not even listed. Shame

  3. Do you think this recipe can be frozen? I don’t think I can use it all fast enough.

Absolutely! In fact the buttermilk would be an even better flavor option than standard milk.:)

  4. Ewwww When I look for recipes I am not looking for packets of ingredients that include additives, preservatives, sugar and high fructose corn syrup. Food already tastes good I am looking for healthy non-processed natural foods.

  5. Can i use a regular plain yogurt instead of the greek kind? And will it have the same taste and consistency?

  6. most bottled and dry ranch dressings (dry seasoning packest) contain msg – monosodiumglutatmate — msg is extremely unhealthy for a variety of reasons – sodium overload and weight (not just water, actual fat) gain

  7. Nothing healthy about a ranch dressing packet…well, unless you know it’s free or preservatives…but is there such a thing?

    • Yes there is. I have a recipe to make my own ranch mix. Super easy.

      5 tbsp. dry minced onions
      7 tsp. parsley flakes
      4 tsp. salt
      1 tsp. garlic powder

Mix and store in airtight container. Use 2 tbsp. dry mix in place of one packet bought mix.

Made this tonight & it is GREAT!!! So much better that reduced or fat free store bought dressings :)

  9. Made this yesterday and it was perfect! The 2tbs for a salad is enough but I always get in to trouble with veggie dips – so this was awesome!

  10. Could you use fat free sour cream with the same overall taste/effect?  I ask because no matter how I try to use it, I cannot eat yogurt.  I hate it, but I like sour cream, go figure!  According to the Trader Joe’s label, their fat free sour cream is either 0 or 1 point, I cant remember.  Do you think it would work?

    • Absolutely! I just use the yogurt because it’s got more protein and more probiotics, but sour cream is what the package of ranch calls for.

    • I hate yogurt and I can do Greek yogurt has different taste and texture

  11. You know what i do is use the fat free ranch and sprinkle some of the ranch seasoning in to the bowl of ranch iam going to use. And it taste pretty good

Sounds yummy!!  I have been buying yogurt ranch from Bolt House Farms.  It’s only 1 point for 2 tablespoons and it’s tasty.  They have a whole line of very low cal dressings that so far have not disappointed!   http://bolthouse.com/our-products/dressings/yogurt-dressings/classic-ranch/detail

    • not good…

Bolt Hill Farms dressings (and Marie’s) are trying to be healthy but they still include carrageenan a sulphated polysaccharide. Some animal dietary studies have observed colitis-like disease and tumor promotion and concerns are that “degraded carrageenan” (poligeenan) in food-grade carrageenan may lead to health problems.

They also include unnecessary sweeteners: sugar, fruit juice and concentrated fruit juice…

Gaur gum and xanthan gum have been poorly tested so it is unclear if they are safe

Better to make your own from whole natural ingredients.
