I recently was in Costco and had a sample of a chicken and apple slider. It was delicious, so I set out to make a similar recipe that I could do at home. I’m not sure if these are exactly the same, but they are delicious all the same, so who cares? I like how easy these are to make. I can make them up ahead of time and freeze them. Then I can just cook up a couple of them for lunch or dinner. When I need a quick meal, they’re ready to go. All I have to do is broil them for a few minutes. I like to pair these with an Asian coleslaw with a copycat Applebee’s salad dressing and some sweet potato fries. It’s a delicious, simple and healthy meal that’s ready to go in less than 20 minutes. This is perfect for our busy weeknights, or when I simply don’t know what else to make! These sliders are definitely keepers in our house!

Ingredients
  • 2 cups tart apples peeled and grated
  • 1/4 cup diced celery
  • 1/2 tsp poultry seasoning
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 Tbsp honey
  • 1 lb ground chicken
Servings: people
Instructions
  1. Combine all ingredients in a food processor.
  2. Process until well combined.
  3. Form the chicken mixture into small patties.
  4. Broil the patties for about 3-4 minutes per side, or until cooked through.
  5. Serve hot.

Entire recipe makes 4 servings

  1. This recipe didn’t work at all for me. All I got was mushy tuna salad like texture, and I had a difficult time telling when it was done. It sounded so good I wanted it to work out. I also added 2 sleeves of crackers and it still was too moist. :'(

  2. I can now confirm that par-cooking the apples (diced instead of grated),, onions, and celery and letting them cool before mixing them with the meat makes for a patty that holds together quite well!

  3. I made this and was looking forward to it. I followed the recipe as written. When I was done it was a sloppy mess. There was nothing to bind it and make it solid. I added two cups of crackers. Sort of disappointed in the recipe.

    • Raeann, I was a little afraid that might happen with so much fruit, veg, and honey mixed in with the meat. I love the idea of this recipe, though. I’m considering making it tonight, but instead of grating the apples and mixing everything and then broiling, I might dice the apples and then cook them with the celery in just a little cooking spray until they give up some of their water, then I’ll let them cool before mixing with the ground chicken and forming it into patties.
